After the magnificent colours in autumn, the landscape of Aavasaksa turns white. In addition to pure snow, the beauty of Lapland is the bright sky of starts and northern lights.
In middle of winter, you'll see incredible colours as sunlight reaches the horizon again after the polarnight.

Downhill skiing
Aavasaksa Ski Resort has one lift and three slopes. The longest slope is about one kilometer long and the height difference is 115m.
At the bottom of the slopes there is a carpet lift, a snow tube and toboggan run, as well as equipment rental. The slopes are child-friendly and also ideal for practicing downhill skiing.
The slopes start almost from the yard of Aava Sky Village, so it is easy to go skiing during your stay.
Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is a great way to explore the winter landscapes of Aavasaksa. Go snowshoeing and walk on the pristine snow, admiring the tracks of the animals, enjoying the silence and sounds of nature.

Cross country-skiing
From the corner of the Aava Sky Village reception building, a cross-country skiing trail begins, along which you can go around the entire Aavasaksan vaara hill all the way to Ainiovaara in Ylitornio.
The length of the route around Aavasaksa will be 8.2 kilometres. In total, Ylitornio has about 40 kilometres of cross-country skiing track networks.

Down hill skiing in Aavasaksa
The Aavasaksa ski slopes are located in the immediate vicinity of Aava Sky Village. Ticket prices are very affordable. There are three slopes, the longest of which is less than a kilometer long and the height difference is over a hundred meters. The slope has a baton lift and a carpet lift, where the youngest members of the family can safely try the lift climb to the snow tube and toboggan slopes.
Cross country-skiing
The total length of the route network in the area is just under 40 km, of which about 11 km is lighted. The starting points are from Ainiovaara Ski Resort and Aavasaksa, either from the courtyard of Aava Sky Village or from the lower station of the ski slopes. On the tracks there is an opportunity to ski both traditional and skating skiing. The routes wind through varied terrain, some suitable for demanding fitness skiing. There are campfire sites along the route. More trails can be found in Övertorneå in Swedish side.
Snowmobiling
Aavasaksa has a connection to Ylitornio's tens of kilometres of snowmobile routes, which also provide access to the municipality of Pello and the snowmobile route network in Övertorneå in Sweden.
Ice fishing
The lakes and rivers in the area offer opportunities for ice fishing. In the spring, ice fishing competitions are also held in numerous villages in Finland and Sweden.
